Vintage is Always Better

The photo I posted on Saturday was the upholstery of my favorite retro lazy boy. Very comfy!! Today's might be a little tougher but I think the general concept will be easy to grasp.

A Beautiful Day

Yesterday's photo was the side of a foot stool, kudos to those who guessed correctly! Today's shouldn't be that hard, but who knows, good luck!

Art in LA

My good friend Rebekah Waites created an amazing art installation at this last years Burning Man. The project was called the Church Trap, and they ended up burning the giant faux church at the end of the event. Inside of the church was an 1800's organ fitted with LED lights and old sheet music. Well Rebekah saved the organ and last night it went on display at the Spring Street Art Tower in downtown LA. The event was part of the monthly dtla art walk. The piece will be on display till May, go check it out!

We need more Beauty

Yesterday's photo of course was a an old rotary pay phone. It's even been featured in a picture I already poster here. Today is a little more difficult, enjoy!

This one won't be Hard

I love vintage pieces, their flaws and scrapes tell a beautiful story of the life they have lived. This is one of my favorite pieces that we have the prop house I work at.

What's in a Name

Yesterday was pretty easy, an old reel to reel recorder, they don't make them like that anymore.

Now this might be a little easier, you know what just sit back and enjoy this one.

Photo of the Day

So yesterday's photo was an old Singer sewing machine. In the background was an old shoe shine brush and a blue vintage glass dish. Today's should be a little easier, or maybe not.

A Photo A Day

I've had a hard time figuring out to fill this blog with original content. I figured everyday I would start taking a picture of something beautiful. Expect many inanimate objects!

Can anyone guess what this is, or even what are the objects in the background? I'll give the answer tomorrow!

I love selfies

Growing up I was always overweight. When I got older I discovered a side effect of being overweight, i no one ever takes photos of you. Not sure what that did to my self esteem but it definitely made me a fan of the selfie.  About a year ago I started experimenting with selfies using my Canon Rebel 2Ti and a tri-pod. Inspired by LA based photography collective The Imps of Marge & Fletch I decided to start adding items to my pictures. I love creating richly layered photos that hopefully makes the audience wonder "what is this guy up too."
Milk in a boot, the Zack Morris cell, a cigarette machine and a coffin. Oh yeah the pants are Obey and the hat is Y&R.
Growing up in Alaska I always had a fascination with guns which seems to show up in my photos.
I love this La Marzocco shirt, the blue really makes my eyes pop!
This vintage chair is one of my favorite things in the world, my buddy was moving and was going to throw it out. Another fact about this photo, I actually took the other two photos in the picture.

Prada by way of Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson and long time collaborator Jason Schwartzman have came together for a new short film for Prada. Set in 1950's Italy Schwartzman plays a race car driver who crashes into the town where his ancestors came from. This is one of the most beautiful things that I've seen Mr. Anderson involved in. Bright vibrant colors contrast the small dim village set. This is worth a watch for the production design alone.

NY Times articles

So below is a fun little video clip from Bill Cunningham at the NY Times. This week he's taking photos of all the really colorful people at the New York City Marathon this year.

Check this out another one from the Times, submit photos of yourself in your natural surroundings. I always say I'm going to take some photos and submit them, do I? No, but maybe tomorrow I'll pull out the DSLR and take some shots. Hope you do to :))))

My new Favorite Socks by Arthur George

So I just got these amazing new socks a few days ago and I'm totally in love!! The sock company is actually created by Robert Kardashian, yeah him, he uses the Arthur George name so it will sound classy. He's teamed with Universal Hosiery Inc to create, develop and distribute the socks. They cost about 30 dollars a pair and are using the Toms model by giving away a pair for every pair bought. Go get yourself a pair!

I want to be Bill Cunningham

If you don't know who Bill Cunningham is, it's not that big of a deal. I mean you are missing out on something but not everybody has time for New York fashion. You got kids at home, 2 jobs, you wear one pair of jeans, of course you don't have time. The multiple job thing is the only part of that which applies to me directly. So Bill Cunningham takes photos of people on the streets of Manhattan and 35 years ago the NY Times started publishing them weekly. He usually does themes, white clothes one week, hats the next and so on. I suggest you go to this link to check out the great videos he puts together now for the web. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/03/fashion/bill-cunningham-costumery-on-the-street.html?ref=fashion&_r=0 .

Another great choice is Richard Press & Philip Gefter's documantery Bill Cunningham New York.

Cut Copy at the Palladium

I got the oppurtunity to shoot Cut Copy a few years ago at the Palladium here in Hollywood, never really did any thing with them so I figured why not put them up on Fashionable Friends!!!

The Cut Copy After Party

I took these photos a while back, it was right after Cut Copy had just performed at the Palladium. You might even recognize a few people.
